Singapore – INSTINC is pleased to present THERE IS NO PLACE, LIKE HOME..., an exhibition by Lio Cheung from Hong Kong, artist-in-residence from January to February 2017.
Singapore holds a special meaning in Cheung's heart. Cheung remembers growing up with many stories about Singapore that her father, a Singaporean, used to tell her and she always had a curiosity and desire to visit this distant homeland. This yearning led her to decide to apply for her first residency here in Singapore. With her unique half Hong Kong half Singaporean identity, she hopes to discover, through this residency programme, a new and deeper meaning of home for herself - a special place and relationship that spans 2 different generations and 2 different places. Using a myriad of colours and materials, she endeavours to create work that can represent what home is to her.
About Lio Cheung
An independent artist based in Hong Kong, with a background in Fine Art (RMIT University) and Fashion Design (University of Salford), Cheung draws most of her inspiration from keen observations of nature, culture, and daily interactions with people around her.
In her artwork, she weaves and incorporates different materials and medium, composing her thoughts and insights not only into inanimate objects and forms, but also live performances which encourage interaction and provide the audience with food for thought.
